Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP is reminding local residents and community groups that today (Thursday 14th September 2023) is R U OK? Day, a National Day of Action dedicated to encouraging people to regularly ask one another 'Are you ok?'

Mr Ward said that by raising awareness about the importance of connection, the R U OK? Foundation aims to prevent isolation by empowering people to support each other through life's ups and downs.

“Every day should be R U OK day. During this COVID lockdown period, this National Day of Action serves as an important reminder of the need to increase public awareness and understanding about the link between connection, community, well-being and suicide prevention,” he said.

“R U OK? is a not-for-profit organisation committed to providing a national focus and leadership on suicide prevention by empowering Australians to have open and honest conversations and stay connected with people in their lives.

“You don't have to be an expert to support someone going through a tough time, you just need to be there, to listen without judgement and take the time to follow up.

“A simple question 'Are you ok?' could well save somebody’s life,” Mr Ward said.
