MASSIVE MAKEOVER FOR JOE HYAM RESERVE IN NORTH NOWRA

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP has announced $318,000 funding to provide a much-needed upgrade at Joe Hyam Reserve in North Nowra.

Mr Ward lobbied for the upgrade on behalf of locals who have been wanting to make this park more user-friendly for local families.

With the funding now secured, Shoalhaven City Council will be responsible for consulting on the final design and delivering the project. Mr Ward was joined at today’s announcement by Deputy Mayor Cr Paul Ell and Cr Serena Copley.

“Protecting and improving public open space is important to me and its important to our community. Since becoming your local MP, I have worked hard and delivered millions of NSW Government funding to upgrade parks and reserves.

“From Boongaree at Berry to the upgrade at Artie Smith Oval currently underway, I am very proud to have worked hard and delivered funding that makes a real difference for local communities.

“North Nowra has so many local young families that want safe places for their children to enjoy. I’m pleased this major injection of funds will make a big difference.

“Council will now consult with the local community on the final design and I look forward to seeing the plans. I would encourage council to ensure any plan is ‘sun smart’ with appropriate shade for both playground equipment and parents.

Deputy Mayor of Shoalhaven City Council, Clr Paul Ell said: “I welcome this investment and I know that it will be very much appreciated by the families who reside in North Nowra,” Clr Ell said.

“Thank you to Gareth Ward and the NSW Government for supporting the delivery of facilities which really make such a big difference to the liveability of an area,” he said.

“I am looking forward to working with the local community as part of the consultation on the design and to seeing the creation of what I am sure will be a fantastic new park,” Clr Ell concluded.

Local Shoalhaven Ward One Councillor Serena Copley said: “I’m delighted with the announcement today of over $300,000 in funding from the NSW Government to make improvements to Joe Hyam Reserve in North Nowra,” Clr Copley said.

“Improving facilities in Shoalhaven parks and public open spaces for locals and families to enjoy will always be a priority for me. I'm particularly pleased to see this investment in a Ward One location which will provide a significant upgrade,” she said.

“I look forward to hearing from the local community regarding the final design,” Clr Copley concluded.
