WARD LAUNCHES PETITION CALLING FOR A FENCED DOG PARK FOR KIAMA MUNICIPALITY

31 Oct 2023

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has today launched a petition calling on Kiama Municipal Council to establish a fenced dog park.

“I am calling on Kiama Council to support the establishment of a fenced dog park in Kiama and to also request that all levels of government work together to find an appropriate location and funding to establish this much needed facility for our local community,” Mr Ward said.

“Kiama has a high number of dog owners, and this would provide a terrific space for local dog owners to interact and to encourage exercise and community participation.

“I’ve been contacted by locals who want to see a facility like this in our community. Neighbouring council areas have these facilities, and I don’t see why the people of our community should miss out.

“I declare my interest in that I own a dog that would love a safe and secure dog park somewhere in the Kiama Municipality. Ideally, the park would have separate areas for larger and smaller dogs.

“This petition is about gauging community support for the concept. If there is sufficient support, I’ll seek to work with council and I’ll also lobby for funding from the NSW and Commonwealth Government.

“Securing land will be the first challenge but having worked with other councils in our area, I know this is something that would be incredibly worthwhile for our local community,” Mr Ward concluded.
