WARD CONDEMNS NSW GOVERNMENT FOR SECRECY OVER THE FUTURE OF DAVID BERRY HOSPITAL

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has moved in Parliament to condemn the NSW Labor Government for its continued secrecy surrounding its future plans for David Berry Hospital.

In a recent letter to Mr Ward, the NSW Government confirmed that services at David Berry Hospital would conclude in 2025.

Mr Ward said more than 700 people have signed his community petition opposing the sale of David Berry Hospital.

“The Minns Labor Government has failed to rule out the sale of David Berry Hospital to developers. This is unacceptable,” Mr Ward said.

“Our community has a right to know what plans the government has for David Berry Hospital. It’s a community asset and there is genuine concern about its future.

“If the government thinks I’m going to let this issue go, they have another thing coming. My motion will force the Government into the House and explain its position on David Berry Hospital. Our community has a right to know,” Mr Ward concluded.

Mr Ward’s motion in Parliament today was:

  1. Condemns the NSW Government for refusing to rule out the sale of David Berry Hospital.
  2. Calls on the NSW Government to rule out the sale of David Berry Hospital to developers as part of the NSW Government’s overdevelopment with no supporting infrastructure agenda.
  3. Calls on the NSW Government to apologise to the people of Berry and the Shoalhaven for failing to be open and transparent about the future of David Berry Hospital.
