WARD BLASTS TRANSPORT FOR MOSS VALE ROAD CLOSURE

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has today slammed Transport for NSW for closing Moss Vale Road for routine maintenance work that doesn’t involve any major repairs to re-open the road in both directions.

Moss Vale Road over Cambewarra Mountain has been subject to contraflow and 24/7 traffic signalling since major rain events in June 2022.

Last week, Transport for NSW announced by way of Media Release that Moss Vale Road will be closed at night this week for ‘maintenance’ work.

“This Government has been dragging its feet whilst residents of Kangaroo Valley and motorists continue to be inconvenienced. If you’re going to totally close a road, why not just get on and fix it at the same time as maintenance work is being done? Mr Ward questioned?

“Locals have had a gut full of delays. This road is a major artery for people moving between the Shoalhaven, Kangaroo Valley and the Southern Highlands. But the NSW Labor Government is treating this vital road like some backwater goat track. It’s not good enough.

“I’d love to know how much the traffic signalling has cost taxpayers since the road was partially closed almost two years ago. Rather than spending taxpayers’ money on traffic control, the government should be spending money on fixing the road,” Mr Ward said.

“This is like something out of ‘Yes Minister’. The Government can’t tell locals when works are going to start on permanent road repairs and when they will be complete. The lack of information and communication about repairs are incredibly frustrating.

“I call on Transport for NSW to tell locals when works will commence and advise when they will be complete. The lack of engagement to-date is just not good enough,” Mr Ward concluded.
