WARD BLASTS GOVERNMENT FOR BLOWING MILLIONS ON TRAFFIC CONTROL WHILE ROAD WORKS STILL NOT UNDERWAY

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has blasted the NSW Labor Government for blowing millions of dollars on ‘traffic management’ rather than getting on with the job of fixing the regions beleaguered roads almost two years on from the June 2022 floods.

Under questioning from Mr Ward in Parliament, NSW Labor has admitted to spending $5.6 million on Moss Vale Road traffic control but the government is yet to spend a cent on fixing it.

“Moss Vale Road over Cambewarra Mountain has been a mess since the June storms in 2022. If the Government just got on and fixed it, this valuable taxpayer money could have been saved. What a joke,” Mr Ward said.

“My chief complaint is not the need for traffic control, it’s the ridiculous amount of time it taken to fix this road and the subsequent waste of hard-earned taxpayers money on traffic control. Transport for NSW is treating our community like second-class citizens with absolutely not communication or sense of urgency in fixing this problem.

“But it appears that Moss Vale Road isn’t the only road under a go-slow with the Minister admitting that the Government has spent almost $9 million in the current year to date (Feb 2024) on traffic control.

“We don’t need traffic control; we need our roads fixed.

“If these roads were in Sydney-based Labor electorates, they would have been fixed yesterday. This is yet another example of this government trundling along without any sense of urgency.

“The people of Kangaroo Valley in particular have had enough and it’s time for the government to stop using traffic control and take control and fix these roads,” Mr Ward concluded.
