Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP has today announced that funding has been secured for the expansion of Jamberoo Action Park to build a thrilling eight-lane water attraction set to unlock jobs and boost tourism in Kiama thanks to the New South Wales Government’s Regional Job Creation Fund.
Mr Ward had pressed for the funding and was delighted to make the announcement alongside Jamberoo Action Park representatives.
Mr Ward said that a $600,000 grant will enable construction of an eight-lane Velocity Falls aqua racing waterslide, generating construction and seasonal jobs and 30 full-time equivalent jobs once operational.
“The attraction combines three exhilarating water rides, an eight lane aqua racer with two thrilling skybox drops and will also include a path for a trackless train to link up all major attractions of the theme park for guests,” he said.
“The Velocity Falls water attraction will be a major tourism drawcard for Kiama, and increased visitation to the park will drive tourism growth beyond the summer peak period.
“This grant unlocks new jobs and vocational pathways for Kiama, with an increase in visitation leading to more employment opportunities at the popular theme park.
“Jamberoo Action Park offers a quality entertainment experience for the whole family, and this expansion will enable the one-of-a-kind theme park to entertain more and more visitors for many years to come,” Mr Ward said.
Mr Jim Eddy, Owner and Managing Director of Jamberoo Action Park also welcomed the funding announcement.
“The support of the NSW Government through the Regional Job Creation Fund has been crucial in financing our latest exhilarating ride precinct, Velocity Falls. As a family owned and operated theme park, this support has provided us with confidence to invest in more attractions which will act as a catalyst for further development and growth,” Mr Eddy said.
“Kiama Council has created a strong Regional Economic Development Strategy which aims to grow the already strong and vibrant local economy, and we are excited to continue contributing to our region and what it has to offer.
“Our research suggests that this project will provide another 50 jobs for young people in the area, and that for every dollar spent within our business, consumers will spend a further dollar within our local business community.
“With the support of Gareth Ward and the NSW Government, we are extremely excited to open Velocity Falls to our guests in time for summer this year, and look forward to welcoming back all the smiling faces for our 2020-2021 Season opening in September,” Mr Eddy said.
