Member for Kiama Gareth Ward said that tomorrow (Friday 8th March 2024) is International Women’s Day and an opportunity to celebrate the many achievements of women.
Mr Ward said that the theme for 2024 is ‘inspire inclusion’.
“As I travel across the Kiama electorate, I am constantly inspired by incredible women.
“I recently announced Barbara Adams from Jamberoo Red Cross as the 2024 Kiama Electorate Local Woman of the Year recipient.
“From local women re-entering the workforce, mothers raising children and supporting their families at home, women volunteering in our local communities from junior rugby league to junior netball to little athletics to mums assisting teachers in classrooms helping children learn to read.
“Empowering women is one of the best ways to promote economic development and growth, and to achieve peace and security.
“To inspire inclusion means to celebrate diversity on International Women's Day 2024 and beyond,” he said.
“International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
"Each year, this day serves as a powerful reminder of the progress made towards gender equality and highlights the work that still needs to be done to include and empower women.
“In 2024, the campaign theme Inspire Inclusion highlights the important contribution of women in all aspects of society.
“This year’s campaign theme underscores the crucial role of inclusion in achieving gender equality. It calls for action to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create environments where all women are valued and respected.
“Inspire inclusion encourages everyone to recognise the unique perspectives and contributions of women from all walks of life,” Mr Ward concluded.
