FUNDING FOR GUMARAA ‘DANCE WITH YOUR MOB’ PROJECT

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has today announced $17,000 funding for Gumaraa Aboriginal Experience Pty Ltd in Albion Park Rail under Round 1 of the Aboriginal Affairs NSW Cultural Grants Program.

Gumaraa is an Aboriginal cultural experience and education company that delivers authentic Indigenous experiences for all, based on the traditions of the Dharawal and Yuin Nation. Their programs and tours serve to immerse and educate the wider community on Indigenous culture, traditions and history.

“I am extremely pleased that this funding will make a real and impactful difference as part of Gumaraa’s ‘Dance with your Mob’ project.  I congratulate Richard Campbell, Lisa Bazzano, and Gumaraa, for their contributions to the region and the preservation and sharing of Aboriginal culture," Mr Ward said.

“We are thrilled to receive this funding,” said Mr Richard Campbell, Kiama born - Yuin Nation South Coast Australia artist and founder of Gumaraa.

Gumaraa is about reconnecting back to Mother Earth through ancient story and song lines and passing on cultural knowledge to younger generations. We are maintaining cultural dance through the movements of animals and keeping song and story lines alive through dance,” said Mr Campbell.

“I acknowledge and thank the NSW Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, the Hon David Harris MP, for his diligent work in this portfolio and for investing in important indigenous-led and community building projects in our southern Illawarra region,” Mr Ward concluded.
