World Suicide Prevention Day

10 Sep 2021

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP is reminding our local community that today (Friday 10th September) is World Suicide Prevention Day, which is dedicated to people who have been touched by the loss and heartbreak of suicide.

“World Suicide Prevention Day is about raising awareness of suicide in our local communities and identifying where and how we can all work together collaboratively towards a world without suicide,” Mr Ward said.

“With concerning statistics indicating that nine people are taking their own lives every day in Australia, unfortunately thousands of Australians currently experience the unique loss, grief and deep sadness of suicide every week.

“Today we stand united to help create hope through togetherness and action,” he said.

"You can make a difference locally by showing that nobody walks alone.

“Stay safe. Stay connected. And let’s stay together as we hold onto hope this World Suicide Prevention Day,” Mr Ward concluded.
