WARD LAUNCHES PETITION AGAINST JAMBEROO ROAD SPEED LIMIT REDUCTION

03 Oct 2024

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has today officially launched his community petition which calls on Transport for NSW and the NSW Government to reverse the speed limit reduction on Jamberoo Road from Jamberoo Mountain Road at Jamberoo to Terry Street at Albion Park.

The petition can be found here.

Mr Ward said the reduction was commenced on 8th October 2024 however feedback from local residents has been a major concern.

“I’ve been overwhelmed by Jamberoo residents' responses to the 23rd September 2024 media release by Transport for NSW regarding reduced speed limits in Minnamurra and Jamberoo,” he said.

“Simply lowering the speed limit will not address offending drivers, particularly tourists and motorcyclists. The road requires better maintenance and significant improvements,” Mr Ward said.

“I am also concerned that this change will result in more locals getting fined on their daily commute and that scenario just simply isn’t good enough!

“As your local MP, I am launching this petition today in an effort to call upon Transport for NSW and the NSW Government to reverse the speed limit reduction on Jamberoo Road from Jamberoo Mountain Road at Jamberoo to Terry Street at Albion Park.

“My community petition also calls for road works, maintenance and design improvements, including a review of overtaking options, vegetation removal, and increased police presence, to address safety concerns, rather than a reduction in the speed limit.

“As your local MP, I will continue to fight on your behalf until this matter is resolved for our local Jamberoo and Minnamurra community,” Mr Ward concluded.
