Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP has today congratulated Australian Paralympian and cyclist Amanda Reid from Werri Beach who is competing in her third Paralympics in Tokyo at the Izu Velodrome.

“As somebody with a disability, I understand how important it is to encourage young people with a disability to dream big and to reach their sporting goals and aspirations,” Mr Ward said.

“I am just so proud of Amanda – to see how far she has come and what she has managed to achieve is nothing short of inspirational.

Reid, now 24, competed in the S14 100-metre breaststroke in London in 2012 before transitioning to cycling ahead of Rio 2016.

“Amanda is now the current world record holder in the 500-metre C2 time trial, clocking 38.918 in December 2020 in Brisbane.

“This Friday 27th August at 11am, I encourage everybody to tune in to watch Amanda in the Women’s C2 500 metre time trial final and cheer on our local girl Amanda Reid who is representing our region and country with such pride and distinction.

“I also wish to congratulate Shoalhaven’s Victoria Davies from Bolong and her own horse Celere who spearheads Australia’s four person para-equestrian team in Tokyo later this week – we are all cheering for Victoria Davies as well,” Mr Ward concluded.
