TAKE EXTRA CARE THIS LONG WEEKEND: DOUBLE DEMERITS IN FORCE

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward is today reminding local motorists and visitors to take extra care on our Princes Highway and other local roads this Labour Day long weekend as double demerits will be enforced from midnight on Friday 4th October to midnight on Monday 7th October 2024 inclusive.

Mr Ward is encouraging motorists to make sure you give yourself plenty of time to travel, don't speed, always drive to the road conditions, wear your seatbelt and avoid distractions such as your iPhone device whilst behind the wheel of your vehicle.

“I know that many local residents will be catching up with family and friends this long weekend, enjoying a barbeque with their mates and enjoying the warmer weather,” he said.

“Statistics show that there’s a 30% reduction in casualty crashes when double demerit points are operational.

“So whether you are going for the Penrith Panthers or the Melbourne Storm in this Sunday’s NRL Grand Final decider, make sure you have a ‘Plan B’ and don’t drink and drive.

“Please take extra care and make sure that you and your family and friends all get home safely and please don’t receive any demerit points,” Mr Ward concluded.
