Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has slammed Shoalhaven City Council for failing to invite him to the official opening of the Northern Collector Road today, officially named Bannada Way.
Mr Ward has written to CEO Robyn Stevens requesting a ‘please explain’ for the latest council snub given the Northern Collector Road was funded to support the new Nowra Bridge project.
“Setting to one side the fact that this road is years late, this project was funded to support the construction of the new Nowra Bridge project; a project Shelley Hancock and I secured funding for.
“We are only weeks away from a council election and it appears that those who had nothing to do with funding the project were all trying to take the credit for a Facebook photo!
“When I’ve secured funding for projects, invitations were extended to local representatives, even those who had nothing to do with the funding,” Mr Ward said.
“Case in point was the Artie Smith Oval. In spite of the fact I secured the funding, the Mayor who had previously opposed the project and the Labor Member for South Coast whose electorate the facility wasn’t even in, cut the ribbon. The absolute hide!
“Today, another major infrastructure project in my electorate which was funded by the former Federal Coalition Government was opened by a bunch of Green and Labor representatives ahead of the council and federal elections.
“Nothing sums this council up more than today’s childish and petulant behaviour. They are more interested in cutting people out and playing silly games than actually doing the work.
“The sooner we can have professional adults running this council, the better,” Mr Ward concluded.
