Our Communities Stop to Commemorate 101st Remembrance Day

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward this morning attended the Remembrance Day Service in Albion Park to pay respects to Australia’s servicemen and servicewomen.

“101 years ago at 11am on 11 November 1918, fighting was suspended and the whole world united to celebrate the end of the Great War,” Mr Ward said.

“On Monday 11 November 2019, the communities in our region came together to reflect on events which have shaped both who we are as a nation, and who we are as people.”

“It is important that we continue to honour and reflect on the service and sacrifice of current and former NSW military personnel.”

Acting Minister for Veterans Minister Geoff Lee attended the State’s Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph at Martin Place.

“This year marks 101 years since the Armistice of the First World War.”

“We paused for one minute, to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the Great War, the Second World War and in all conflicts since.” 

“It is especially important that we throw our support behind those currently serving and their families, who are continuing to make sacrifices for our country.”

Around 1200 ex-service men and women separate from the Defence Forces into NSW each year. The NSW Government provides a range of supports to veterans and their families including health services, housing assistance and employment an education programs.
