Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward has today announced that motorists are advised the M1 Princes Motorway will be closed this Saturday night to start work on a new pedestrian bridge next to the Nan Tien Temple at Unanderra over the M1 Princes Motorway.
Mr Ward said that, as part of the work, four large bridge beams will be lifted and installed over the M1 Princes Motorway.
“To minimise disruption to motorists, the M1 will be closed to traffic between 7pm Saturday 10th February and 9am this Sunday 11th February in both directions between Five Islands Road and Northcliffe Drive, weather permitting,” he said.
“While work is carried out, traffic on the M1 Princes Highway will be detoured via Five Islands Road, Princes Highway through Unanderra and Northcliffe Drive. Motorists should allow about five minutes additional travel time.
“If work is delayed, further M1 Princes Highway road closures may be required on Sunday 11th and Monday 12th February, between 8:30pm and 4:30am.
“Lane closures will also be in place on the M1 Princes Highway from today to Friday 9th February, between 7pm and 5am to prepare the work site.
“Motorists are advised to follow the directions of traffic control and signs and keep to the reduced speed limit.
“I thank the local community for their patience whilst this work is being carried out,” Mr Ward concluded.
