Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has declared victory in the fight to have the NSW Government rule out the sale of David Berry Hospital.
The commitment came in Question Time today following the government’s previous statement that the David Berry Hospital would close in 2025 without any further detail.
“Whilst it’s taken them a while to listen, I welcome the Minister’s commitment following our community campaign to secure the future of David Berry Hospital which was gifted to our community,” Mr Ward said.
“I also want to thank the NSW Opposition and my independent colleagues for their support as I have sought to use Parliament to secure the future of David Berry Hospital.
“I note the Minister has indicated that ‘community consultation’ will occur on the future of the site but I will continue to pursue my private members bill to amend the David Berry Hospital Act to ensure no future government can sell this site.
“I look forward to receiving further details from the government about what form the community consultation on David Berry Hospital will take to ensure our community is properly consulted about any future use,” Mr Ward concluded.
