Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward MP and Member for Wollongong Paul Scully MP today announced that a new 24 metre long observation deck overlooking Port Kembla Beach and safety upgrades to Port Kembla Marine Rescue Tower are among 17 projects receiving NSW Government funding to improve community amenity for people in Port Kembla.
Mr Ward and Mr Scully today announced the full list of grant recipients through round three of the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund whilst visiting the Wonderwalls project in Port Kembla.
Mr Ward said a total of $2.9 million had been committed across multiple projects that promise to boost economic activity, develop public infrastructure, enhance community spaces and improve air, land and waterway quality.
“I’m so proud of this program, in only its third year, and the way that it is improving Port Kembla and helping to make it even more vibrant and exciting,” Mr Ward said.
“The NSW Government has already provided $3 million for 25 projects through the first two rounds of this program, many of which are already delivering real improvements for the community.
“Our Marine Rescue NSW volunteers work tirelessly to protect boaters and upgrading the local Marine Rescue Tower will help them help the community, while the new observation deck will be an exciting tourist attraction with ocean views.”
Other significant projects include:
Paul Scully said “The list of successful projects is as diverse as the Port Kembla community.
“Gareth Ward and I had the opportunity to work together in the consideration of these projects and I am pleased that our bipartisanship has seen that these exciting projects have been funded.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund provides infrastructure that not only delivers improvements for residents, but also the flow on benefits of increased tourism.
“By encouraging tourism, we’re helping to grow the local economy because more people visiting Port Kembla means more people dining in local restaurants and more money spent in local shops,” Mr Barilaro said.
“We are providing the funding that communities need to grow and prosper and our investments are helping hundreds of communities with projects just like these.
“Our already strong economy means we can continue to build on the foundations that make regional NSW a great place to live, work, play or invest.
