Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP has announced funding for a major upgrade of Kiama Power’s home ground at Bonaira Oval with the club to be the region’s biggest winner from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.

Funding secured by Mr Ward will upgrade Bonaira oval amenities and club rooms which will provide a massive boost to a very popular local sports ground.

“I am delighted to have secured funding that will energise and upgrade this important local asset. This is a great shot in the arm for Kiama Power but particularly the Juniors.

“As a local MP, I have always worked hard to secure investments that make a real difference for our community. AFL is incredibly popular in our district and I am always keen to seek grants that support sports and active recreation that leads to healthier lives.

“More than ever before, investments like this upgrade generate local jobs but improve sporting assets for many years to come. I’d like to congratulate Kiama Power on this announcement today.”

Aaron Shelley from Kiama Power AFL welcomed the announcement today.

“This is the largest ever grant received by our club and I would like to thank our hard working local member for fighting so hard to secure this funding it will make a huge difference.

“Our club has been working towards a major upgrade of Bonaira Oval amenities for some time, but without this grant from Mr Ward and the NSW Government this upgrade would never have been possible.

“As AFL grows in popularity and we see an increase in female players across our district we need amenities that support and encourage this growth,” Mr Shelley said.
