Local Grandparent of The Year Awards 2020 In The Kiama Electorate Now Open

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP said that they are the smiling faces that light up their grandkid’s worlds and they are the helping hand for parents and now it is time to say a big thank you by nominating your Local Grandparent of the Year 2020 in the Kiama Electorate.

Mr Ward said that the Local Grandparent of the Year Awards are a highlight of Grandparents Day on Sunday 25th October 2020.

“There is no denying that it has been tough on our grandparents this year with COVID-19 meaning they have had to isolate more than most to keep themselves safe,” he said.

“That means they haven’t been able to see their family members as much but they have still been there for us on the phone and via video calls whenever we need them.

“Grandparents Day is the perfect opportunity to show grandparents just how much they are loved and appreciated.

“We have some truly inspiring grandparents across the Illawarra, Kiama and Shoalhaven region and it would be great to see them honoured and I look forward to receiving your local nominations,” Mr Ward said.

The Local Grandparent of the Year winner can be nominated for the big gong which is the NSW Grandparent of the Year Award.

The NSW Acting Minister for Seniors Dr Geoff Lee MP said that grandparents are often the glue which holds families together.

“It has been a tough year with COVID-19 and isolation so let’s celebrate all the good things that our grandparents do for our families and communities,” Mr Lee said.

“The love, care and support grandparents give is something we should all cherish.

“Grandparents Day is the perfect time to shine a spotlight on these special people and give them the recognition they deserve.

“I ask everyone to pick up the phone their older loved ones. Let’s put a smile on our grandparents’ faces this Grandparents Day,” Minister Lee concluded.

Nominations for the Kiama Electorate will close on Friday 9th October 2020. Please send your nominations in via email to [email protected] with a brief description of your local grandparent nominee and their contact details.
