The petition reads:
To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales. The petition of citizens in the State of New South Wales brings to the attention of the House:
- Local operators shut down taxi services in 2023 after 30 years servicing the Kiama municipality, including a rank and hail service, for 30 years
- Kiama Council received permission from the Point to Point Commissioner for taxi companies to operate a rank and hail service
- Illawarra Taxi Network have offered to locate two cabs on a trial basis in Kiama and are seeking funding to underwrite a trial
- The loss of Kiama Cabs from our community has meant the loss of an important public transport option, particularly for older people, people with disabilities or people who don’t drive
We the undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly for immediate intervention to address these pressing concerns. We seek the NSW Government’s support to fund a trial for the Illawarra Taxi Network’s proposal to run a subsided trial of two cabs in Kiama to ascertain future viability of this vital service.
