JERVIS BAY ROAD UPDATE

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has today said that bridge foundations, piling and construction of retaining walls and the construction of the new eastern roundabout are just some of the things progressing in April as part of the Jervis Bay Road interchange project.

The project which lies in Mr Ward’s electorate was a project championed by the local community with the support of Mr Ward as the local MP.

Works this month will include:

  • embankment construction, including major earthworks and importation of material;
  • progressing the bridge foundation, with piling and construction of retaining walls under way;
  • continuing the eastern access road, with access to open soon for some Princes Highway residents who will be consulted separately about the changes;
  • building road surfaces on parts of the Princes Highway, Jervis Bay Road, Old Princes Highway and Willowgreen Road;
  • installing new drainage across the site;
  • ongoing construction of the new eastern roundabout to allow Jervis Bay Road to remain open while major bridge works are in progress (more information will be provided prior to changes being implemented);
  • removing the median barrier on the Princes Highway north of the intersection and slightly realigning the southbound lane for works to occur on the eastern side of the highway; and
  • continuing remaining electrical relocations.

From Tuesday 1st April to Wednesday 30th April 2025 standard work hours will be Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm, and on Saturdays between 8am and 1pm.

Night work will be carried out for up to 10 shifts each month between 6pm and 7am, with the following nights scheduled for work during April:

  • Wednesday 2nd & Thursday 3rd April 2025;
  • Wednesday 9th & Thursday 10th April 2025;
  • Tuesday 15th & Wednesday 16th April 2025; and
  • Wednesday 30th April 2025.

All work is subject to weather conditions.

Portable boom gates will be in place at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Jervis Bay Road on select dates between Thursday 10th and Thursday 24th April 2025 to assist with managing the flow of increased traffic to the area during the Easter period and Autumn school holidays.

Quotes attributable to Mr Ward:

“Like so many of the Princes Highway projects, it’s very exciting watching this project rise out of the ground,” Mr Ward said.

“The Jervis Bay Road intersection is the most dangerous on the Princes Highway south of Nowra. This upgrade won’t just unclog congestion, it will save lives.

“So many emergency personnel tell me of the positive impact highway upgrades have had on road safety. This project will complete the duplication and safety upgrades of the Princes Highway throughout my entire electorate,” Mr Ward concluded.
