Member for Kiama Gareth Ward says that progress on the Jervis Bay Road Interchange is progressing well, with significant construction activities continuing throughout February.
The Jervis Bay Road Interchange is a critical project that will improve safety and efficiency on the Princes Highway, with more than $2 billion invested in highway upgrades from Albion Park Rail to Jervis Bay Road.
"Delivering a safer Princes Highway has always been one of my highest priorities, and I am thrilled to see the Jervis Bay Road Interchange progressing," Mr Ward said.
"This project is a game-change, not just for our community, but for the millions of people who visit the South Coast it ensures safer and smoother travel for local residents, tourists, and freight operators. I fought hard to secure this project, and I will continue to ensure it stays on track.
“During February, work will continue with major earthworks, bridge foundation piling, road surface construction, and drainage improvements. These are all crucial steps in delivering the upgraded interchange. We will see major earthworks progressing, with materials being imported for embankment construction. The bridge foundation will continue to take shape with piling works and retaining walls under construction.
"Electrical relocations will continue, along with the upgrading of the drainage culvert near Willowgreen Road.
"While construction progresses, motorists should remain aware of temporary traffic changes. Speed limits may be reduced to 60km/h or 40km/h, and there may be lane and shoulder closures at times to ensure safety for both workers and road users," Mr Ward added.
Work hours remain between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, with some night work planned as required.
“I encourage all motorists to follow signage and allow extra travel time when necessary.
"This upgrade will deliver long-term benefits for our community, and I appreciate everyone's patience as we work to make this vital improvement a reality," Mr Ward concluded.
