Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP today announced that drivers now have a simpler, faster and more COVID-safe way of moving from one licence level to the next.
Mr Ward said that local drivers and riders who want to progress from P1 to P2 and then on to an unrestricted licence can now do so online.
"It is great news for the more than 265,000 customers a year who now no longer need to go to a Service NSW Centre to renew or progress their licence,” he said.
"Customers will still get a letter about six weeks before the due date, reminding them their licence is due to be renewed or progressed, and providing advice around the new online option.
"This permanent change will greatly benefit people right across our State, especially in the regions where the closest Service NSW Centre could be hours away.
"We know the challenges in the regions, which is why we are making it simpler and faster for our regional communities to interact with Government.
"In the first two weeks of this option being available, more than 4,700 or slightly more than half of all licence progressions were done online.
"This shows just how much our local communities want these kinds of changes," Mr Ward said.
"The online option will also take the hassle out of having to visit a local Service NSW Centre.
"We want to put the customer at the centre of everything we do, and this decision provides drivers with more choice and convenience.
"Eligible drivers can now renew their licence in the comfort of their home.
"Customers renewing online should also print out the interim certificate and carry it while driving if they aren’t using a digital licence," Mr Ward concluded.
