Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP is encouraging local residents to wear something orange, the official colour of the SES uniform, to recognise hard working volunteers of the NSW SES as part of Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day) tomorrow Wednesday 22nd May 2024.
Mr Ward said that it has been a very challenging past few years for the NSW SES volunteers who have responded and assisted our local communities during storms, recent heavy rains and flooding events in April 2024 and other emergencies across our region.
“WOW Day is an easy way for people to show their support for local volunteers including our local SES personnel across the Illawarra, Kiama and Shoalhaven,” he said.
“NSW SES volunteers play a vital role in helping communities prepare for and recover from severe weather and it is extremely important that they are recognised for their outstanding work, professionalism and dedication which they display.
“WOW Day is about celebrating the hard-wording and dedicated emergency services volunteers who put our local communities ahead of themselves and I would encourage everybody to get behind this fantastic campaign to show your support of these hard working men and women.
“WOW Day is a national day of recognition that is held each year during National Volunteer Week to highlight the invaluable services of so many amazing SES volunteers,” Mr Ward said.
The local community is encouraged to share photographs celebrating WOW Day on social media with #thankyouSES.
