GAME-CHANGER FOR GERRINGONG: UPGRADED CLUBHOUSE OPENS

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has today joined the President of Gerringong District All Sports, John Trevenar, to officially open the newly completed upgrade at the Gerry Emery Reserve clubhouse in Gerringong.

In 2023, Mr Ward worked to secure a grant of $466,000 under the NSW Stronger Country Communities program to upgrade female and accessible facilities at the clubhouse.

“I am delighted to be here today with John, whose dedication to this project has been truly inspiring. Thanks to the work of John, committee members and the broader community, we are here to celebrate the completion of this outstanding upgrade to the clubhouse at Gerry Emery Reserve,” Mr Ward said.

“This is more than just an infrastructure improvement, it’s an investment in our community’s sporting future.

“The grant, along with the tireless work of John, the committee and countless locals has brought this vision to life.”

President of Gerringong District All Sports, Mr John Trevenar, praised the collaborative effort behind the project and the significance of the upgrade for local athletes and supporters.

“This has been a long journey. Over 3 years of hard work, planning, and fundraising to make this upgrade a reality,” Mr Trevenar said.

“These new facilities will improve accessibility for female athletes and individuals with disabilities, creating a more welcoming environment for everyone in our sporting community. The field will host various sports, including cricket, touch football, soccer, and Women's Oztag. Additionally, Gerringong Public School aims to use the facilities for sports carnivals and cross country, and combined high school sports days will also be held here.”

Mr Trevenar acknowledged the crucial role of local businesses, sponsors, and the broader community in helping to meet the project’s funding goals.

“This is a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together. A big thank you to everyone who has worked to help make this project a reality.”

Mr Ward commended the dedication of local sporting clubs and the leadership of Mr Trevenar in bringing the project to completion.

“This project is a brilliant example of what’s possible when a passionate community works together. I look forward to seeing these facilities used and enjoyed by our local athletes for many years to come,” Mr Ward concluded.
