Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP has today encouraged our local community to pause and reflect on the sacrifice of our fallen NSW Police officers this Saturday 29th September for National Police Remembrance Day.
Mr Ward said that he will be attending a special ceremony this Friday 28th September at 10am at Kiama Anglican Church with the Lake Illawarra Police District.
“Every year we gather to remember the men and women who dedicated their lives to the safety of others,” he said.
“Our local Police officers go to work day in and day out not knowing what they will confront in the line of duty, or whether they will return home safely at the end of their shift.
“On this day, it is important that we acknowledge those officers who have lost their lives as a result of their policing career. But we must also pay our respects to our local men and women in blue who work tirelessly to keep us safe from harm every day,” Mr Ward said.
The NSW Minister for Police Troy Grant said the community should never take the contribution of our police for granted.
“Our men and women in blue put their lives on the line day-in day-out attending to violent incidents and calls for assistance, not knowing what to expect but ready to do their job and protect the community.
“If you see an officer out on the beat, please stop them and thank them for the work they do,” Mr Grant said.
“On National Police Remembrance Day, I stand with the entire police family to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of community safety.”
NSW services for National Police Remembrance Day will be held throughout the week leading up to 29th September.
