Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has today officially announced Dr Christa Wood of Gerringong as the 2025 Kiama Electorate Woman of the Year.
Mr Ward this morning officially made the announcement joining Dr Christa Wood at a special NSW Women of the Year Awards 2025 Ceremony in Sydney.
“A local community volunteer and a wonderful person, I am thrilled to today officially announce Dr Christa Wood of Gerringong as the 2025 Kiama Electorate Woman of the Year; and to join Dr Wood at the official Awards Ceremony was a real honour and a privilege,” Mr Ward said.
“Among her many community-building and voluntary activities, Dr Christa Wood has been actively involved in the local Gerringong Rotary Club and their Markets, the Berry Writer’s Festival and Gerringong ‘Pics & Flicks’.
“Dr Wood also founded the Alchemy Chorus South Coast in Gerringong in 2022, which is an inclusive working choir which welcomes those living with dementia and their care partners,” Mr Ward said.
“Dr Wood is also a Dementia Advocate and has established many local activities to improve the lives of local people living with dementia. These include the Alchemy Chorus South Coast and Dementia Inclusive Dancing held at the community hall at the Mayflower Retirement Village in Gerringong which is a terrific program.
“We are extremely fortunate to have enormous contributors like Dr Christa Wood in our region; she is a fine example of a selfless community contributor and somebody who continually works hard in the service of others which makes our local community better connected and more inclusive.
“Dr Christa Wood from Gerringong is the epitome of service above self, a great example of Rotary’s mission of service and is an extremely deserving recipient of the 2025 Kiama Electorate Woman of the Year Award,” Mr Ward concluded.
International Women’s Day will be officially observed and celebrated this Saturday 8th March 2025.
