WARD USES PARLIAMENT TO EXPOSE CFMEU BULLYING OF LOCAL BUSINESS NOWRA CRANES

15 May 2025

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has used Parliament to expose union-bullying of Shoalhaven-based company Nowra Cranes.

Mr Ward told Parliament an employee dispute where the union demanded a cash settlement above employee entitlements, refused by the company, resulted in the CFMEU threatening to shut-down job sites that engage Nowra Cranes.

“Because of the behaviour of the CFMEU, Nowra Cranes has been denied work on Government job sites, in some instances where they had already commenced work,” Mr Ward said.

“Because of the black-ban of Nowra Cranes by the CFMEU, out-of-area companies replaced Nowra Cranes who were already undertaking work at sites like the Shoalhaven Hospital project.

“This bullying comes at the expense of taxpayers and local jobs and it needs to stop.

“Unions have no right to run job sites. Getting value for money for taxpayers should always be the guiding rule as should backing local businesses and jobs.

“I call on the government to investigate these concerns and back local business over union thuggery,” Mr Ward concluded.
