CELEBRATING NATIONAL CARERS WEEK 13TH-19TH OCTOBER

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward said that this National Carers Week he is encouraging local residents and community groups to support and recognise our carers and the important role they continue to play in our local communities.

Mr Ward said that the 2024 theme is ‘Show Them You Care’, a campaign which shines a light on the resilience and sacrifice of our 3 million carers, celebrating the profound impact they have on our local communities including many carers right across the Kiama electorate.

“I am encouraging local residents to raise awareness, celebrate and recognise our carers and to get involved in this year’s National Carers Week, which runs from Sunday 13 to Saturday 19th October 2024,” he said.

“The 2024 Carer Wellbeing Survey highlighted that carers were three times as likely to report being lonely compared to the average Australian. In 2024, 40.3% of carers reported feeling lonely often or always, compared to 13.8% of average adult Australians.

“More than 1 in 10 Australians are carers and more than 1 in 8 residents in New South Wales are carers providing ongoing care and support to a family member or friend.

“Behind the statistics are a tapestry of individual stories – important stories – each unique and often personal – and part of our broader Australian story,” Mr Ward concluded.
