Celebrating International Women's Day

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP has today said that International Women’s Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the many wonderful achievements of women across the Kiama electorate and across our region more broadly.

Mr Ward said that the theme for International Women’s Day, today Tuesday 8th March 2022 is, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, recognising the contribution of women and girls across our region and around the world who are leading to build a more sustainable future for all.

“As I travel across the Kiama electorate and our region more broadly, I am constantly inspired by incredible women – courageous and trailblazing women,” he said.

“I will be announcing the winner of the 2022 Kiama Electorate Local Woman of the Year next week.

“From women engaging, mothers re-entering the workforce, mothers raising children and supporting their families at home, women volunteering in our local communities with Rotary, Lions and Country Women’s Association, from women in junior rugby league, to junior netball, to little athletics and other junior sports to women volunteering in their child’s school canteen or assisting teachers in classrooms helping children learn to read.

“I am privileged to constantly meet inspirational women embracing in their rightful equal place in society and who are prepared to stand up for that gender equality – which is a fitting and appropriate theme for this year’s International Women’s Day 2022.

“Empowering women is one of the best ways to promote economic development and growth, and to achieve peace and security.

“2022 NSW Women’s Week will run from 7th to 13th March and coincides with International Women’s Day and the NSW Government’s annual NSW Women of the Year Awards,” Mr Ward concluded.
