Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP has today announced funding for the Illawarra Light Rail Museum in Albion Park Rail to help upgrade their facilities.
Mr Ward said that he was extremely pleased to have secured this funding from the New South Wales Government.
“This is really fantastic news for the Illawarra Light Rail Museum and this funding will go towards the upgrade of the sales area in their tramway dining car, new benches, cupboards and shelving,” he said.
“Brad Johns, Carolyn Dumont, and the Committee members and volunteers at the Illawarra Light Rail Museum do such a fantastic job of putting on regular events for our local community to enjoy this museum which has a tremendous amount of our region’s rail history and nostalgia.
“To be clear, this isn’t an election commitment – its funding I’m delivering as the local MP as I do every day for community groups across our community,” Mr Ward said.
Mr Brad Johns, Treasurer of the Illawarra Light Rail Museum, also welcomed the funding announcement for the Dining Car sales Area Upgrade and said it was welcome news for their museum as the museum is in its 47th year of operation since it was founded in 1972.
“The museum in 2019 is a great place for families who enjoy the museum and also is a great place of fun family time and riding those trains from industrial railways and tramways of yesteryear.
“We thank Gareth Ward for his wonderful support to our museum and our volunteers over many years now – it is really greatly appreciated by all,” Mr Johns said.
