Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP has today announced $30,000 funding for the Cambewarra School of Arts Association Inc. which will help towards a partial refurbishment of this heritage listed building in Cambewarra Village.

Mr Ward announced the funding during a visit to the Cambewarra School of Arts today.

“I was very pleased to have secured this $30,000 funding from the NSW Government, which will help towards the replacement of deteriorated internal wall cladding and painting, along with the replacement of affected wall framing and external cladding in accordance with heritage requirements,” he said.

“The Cambewarra School of Arts has been serving the community for 140 years. It was first opened in 1879 and is used for so many community activities and events.

“The Cambewarra community doesn’t ask for much – and I’m always happy to help local community groups who need support,” Mr Ward concluded.

Mr Chris Thaler, Trustee and Public Officer from the Cambewarra School of Arts Association Inc said that they were extremely grateful to receive this funding from local MP Gareth Ward with the project just about to get underway.

“The main trust of the project is to replace the white ant infested cladding and framing which has become quite deteriorated and in need of repair – and we previously hadn’t had the money to do it – however with this injection of funding we can make it last, hopefully for another 140 years,” he said.

“We really do appreciate Gareth Ward’s efforts as our local MP in securing this funding from the State Government – it is warmly welcomed and received – so thank you very much to Gareth,” Mr Thaler concluded.
