Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward has today condemned Illawarra Labor for recycling Council candidates that were part of a former Wollongong City Council sacked for corruption.
Mr Ward said it was symptomatic of a party that just doesn’t care.
“Interestingly, not one of the three Illawarra Labor MP’s have endorsed Labor’s Council ticket for Wollongong or Shellharbour,” he said.
“This is in stark contrast to our Party that announced its candidates together and is taking a regional approach to this campaign. Labor are still a loose confederation of warring tribes.
“Why don’t Illawarra Labor MPs want to be seen with the Council candidates? Is it because Ana Watson doesn’t support the City Hub either? Is it because Ryan Park and Paul Scully are as angry with the dumping of Cr Ann Martin from a winnable spot as I am? One again, Labor are more interested in factions that getting things done for the region.
“Illawarra Labor continues to take our region for granted, building outrageously expensive Hubs that our community cannot afford and voting with the Greens to prevent economic development.
“In contrast, our Liberal team has set a jobs target of 10,000 jobs. Labor are only interested in the jobs of their candidates,” Mr Ward concluded.
