Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward has today advised local motorists across the region of changed traffic conditions from next week on the M1 Princes Motorway for essential maintenance work.

Mr Ward said that the New South Wales Government has provided $50,000 to trim trees, remove weeds, clean drains to improve storm water runoff and collect litter between Memorial Drive and Masters Road to improve safety for motorists.

“Work will be carried out at night between 8pm and 4am from Monday 14th to Thursday 17th August, weather permitting, to minimise the impact on motorists,” he said.

“Every effort will be made to minimise noise associated with the work.

“The on and off ramps on the M1 between Memorial Drive and Masters Road will be temporarily closed and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place for the safety of motorists, workers and the community.

“Motorists should plan their trip, allow up to five minutes extra travel time and follow the direction of electronic traffic signs and reduce speed limits,” Mr Ward concluded.
